A Long Weekend Of Great Folk Music
Helmsley Folk Weekend
The
festivities kick off at 7.30pm on Friday 28 September with an upbeat
'Fun With Folk' concert headlined by the Churchfitters, bringing zany
Celtic music from Brittany, as well as the world music rhythms of Mambo
Jambo, and Lincolnshire’s good-humoured folk raconteurs Bill Whalley and
Dave Fletcher.

The headliners for Saturday night's act on 29 September, are the award-winning The Outside Track who have recently
received the ‘Group of the Year’ award at both the Live Ireland Music Awards
2012 and the TIR Irish Music Awards. The band were crowned on 1 January 2012,
and celebrated double success as their lead singer, Norah Rendell was also
awarded the accolade of ‘Vocalist of the Year’. Hailing from Scotland, Ireland,
Cape Breton and Vancouver, its five members are united by a love of traditional
music and a commitment to creating new music on its foundation. Their blend of boundless energy and unmistakable joie de vivre has won them a large following
which has seen them headline festivals all over the globe.

The Sunday
concerts are headlined by American roots duo from Asheville, North Carolina, Dana
and Susan Robinson, Due to circumstances beyond our control Dana and Susan Robinson will not be able to appear at the festival and their concert spot will be filled by the Steve Tilston Trio ... and SONY Award winning Northeast songwriter Jez
Lowe. And if audiences aren’t too exhausted they can stay for the Festival
Finale which sees comedy-folk vaudevillians The New Rope String Band
close the main programme with their inimitable brand of family-folk-fun.
Add to that
the rolling programme of singers sessions, tune gatherings and street dancers
and you have a wonderful recipe for a great music weekend. So bring your
walking boots, instruments and dancing shoes and enjoy Helmsley Folk Weekend,
the fast growing ‘boutique’ festival at the foot of the North York Moors.
