Ricky Cool and the In Crowd come to Helmsley Arts Centre to present their acclaimed stage show ‘A Night at the Flamingo.’ They will take you on a trip back in time to Soho’s most iconic music venue of the early 1960’s and recreate the atmosphere of a typical Flamingo ‘All Nighter.’
Red Hot Rhythm and Blues! Scintillating Ska and Blue beat! Sensational Soul! Ricky Cool and the In Crowd serve up a gorgeous gumbo of sounds, similar to those loved by the early Mods who crammed in to the Flamingo to see and hear some of the greatest bands of the era. Original numbers are interspersed with fabulous arrangements of classics to give you a musical mix that will have your feet itching to dance.
Not only was the Flamingo Club a home for the burgeoning Mod scene of early ‘60’s it also boasted a cosmopolitan clientele where black American GI’s and West Indians would rub shoulders with pop stars, actors, socialites, gangsters and prostitutes. It was THE place to be go to and be seen and played its own small part in the biggest political scandal of the 1960’s – The Profumo Affair.
Be prepared for a great evening’s entertainment, recreating the atmosphere of this celebrated music venue. You can sit back and enjoy the show or get involved and dance. Who knows, Cathy McGowan may spot you and give you a ticket to be in the audience for ‘Ready Steady Go.’
