1822: the decipherment of Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs
1922: the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun
2022: a new pharaoh's tomb found near the Valley of the Kings. This lecture covers the life and death of Thutmose II: the massive succession problems after he died when the queen who was both his wife and sister usurped the throne. Activities of tomb robbers in antiquity causing confusion today. Artefacts and spectacular pieces of artwork proving the identity of Thutmose II as the tomb's owner. And the fate of his body, which has travelled around since his death.
This lecture reveals everything about the latest discovery to be made from the civilisation of Ancient Egypt.
VICKY BAILEY
I became a London Blue Badge Tourist Guide in 2005, receiving an award as the 'Best Guide in Gallery Exams'. One of my main areas of interest is Ancient Egypt. I’ve studied hieroglyphs and carry out volunteer work in the Egyptian department at the British Museum. I lead specialist tours at relevant sites across London and also deliver lectures on this subject. Highlights of my guiding career have included giving a talk on BBC Radio 4 about the execution site of Tyburn and writing a book on the British monarchy.
