Louise Bass is a Scarborough-based visual artist whose vibrant, joyful paintings are brought to life with help from a range of characters including Donkey, Crow, Angry Man, Bandit Cat, Dog and Fox.
Her paintings are playful and poignant, she explores emotions and situations through simple narratives, often using humour to make them accessible to all viewers.
Born in Darlington, Lou studied foundation art in Manchester, before her degree in fine art from Liverpool School of Art. She moved to London and worked in the textile industry for many years before relocating with her family to the coast in 2011.
She is a North Yorkshire Open Studios artist, where she showcases her work at Beeforth’s Hive and often collaborates with poet Charlotte Oliver, who adds her tiny poems to Lou’s paintings.
In 2023 Lou won the People’s Choice Award at the East Coast Open with her painting Big Donkey, Small Bird and in 2025 won Scarborough Fair’s Best Small Exhibition / Installation with artist Amy Carpenter for ‘Isn’t it Grand’.

Adam King is a painter and printmaker living in Scarborough. He has been painting for over thirty-five years with exhibitions and residencies throughout Yorkshire and work in many public and private collections.
Educated at Leeds Met, York St John and Huddersfield he was a lecturer at Harrogate College leading the Foundation Art and Fine Art degree courses before painting full time.
Adam has a fresh approach to image making, combining simplicity with sophistication and a sureness of composition.
